Loud and clear...

It’s such a pity seeing this big sign. You might ask why.. it’s easy, because the land owner must be sick and tire hearing people offering him to sell his land. Unfortunately that’s what’s been going on the past few years, developers are building new hotels or villas aggressively, all over the island, with main focus on the southern part. Well I heard 2012 is the last year it’s allowed to build resorts and such. But of course knowing the government there’s always loopholes in their regulations. It always come down to that root of all evil.

Well, I wish more people realize we can’t eat sand and cement... somebody has to sustain the paddy fields and continue growing food and raise cattle. Farmers need work, I believe many of them love doing what they do and not enticed by modern world and run to the big cities to work in some hotels or looking after art shops. True that sometimes they have more needs and the crop they’re producing isn’t making enough money, but it would be fantastic if they don’t just go to their last resort and sell their land.

The 2006 movie Miss Potter is one that stick in my mind. If here I’m watching plot by plot is turned into buildings, Miss Potter is so much different. She bought land so the farmers can continue working on their land. If only some rich businesspeople can see the need for something like that for the future and set aside all economical calculation. It is good for a whole lot of other things, the farmers, the future of our food, the impact on the environment (won’t even start on that), well you got the drift.

I don’t know, I wish it slow down a bit (if not completely stop). I didn’t moved here to see more buildings. With paddy fields disappearing, not sure what else can we promote here. I mean you can’t advertise the villa you own showing a paddy field next to it when there’s actually no paddy field to brag about, no? Perhaps you can argue that you can drive the guest 15 km up north to see it, but what’s the point?

To rich Miss or Mister Potters out there, any taker?
